츠루 노리히로의 새음반이 오랜만에 도착했다. [네시아의 여행자]이후 8년만이 되는 다큐멘터리의 사운드트랙 앨범이다. [네시아]에는 일본인의 뿌리에 다다르는 유구한 바다의 여행을, 흔들거리는듯한 애달픔을 표류시켜 멋지게 그려낸 (당시의 표기는 [都留敎博])츠루 노리히로이다. 이번 무대는, 이 또한 일본의 원류라고 말할 수 있는 [대승불교]를 낳은 아득한 간다라, [인도]

자, 이번은 도대체 어떤 음악의 여행에 우리들을 초대해줄 것인가… 기대가 커진다. 그리고 나는 첫 번째 곡부터 완전히 그 구심력에 휩쓸려 버렸다. 갑자기 눈물샘을 찌르는 것 같으면서도 영혼을 강하게 붙잡아 흔들어버리는 듯한 설득력. 박력. 본령의 음악이 여기에 있다. 위조품이나 단순한 소비대상이 아니다. 영원히 인류의 유산이 될 수 있는 품격을 가지고 있다.진실에서 태어나 진실을 말한다, 그렇다, 이것이야말로 음악이라고 부르는 것이다. 그렇게 느낄 정도로 가슴에 와 닿았다.

작곡가 츠루 노리히로의 최대 특색이라고 말할 수 있는 웅대한 세계관은 건재하다. 아니 건재뿐인가, 나날이 선명함과 강렬함을 더해 눈을 감고 듣고 있으면 눈앞에 또렷한 이미지가 잇달아 밀려온다. 아직 보지 못한 타국, 2천년 이상의 시기를 뛰어넘어 부처가 산 그 땅의 냄새나 그의 미소짓는 얼굴과 눈물을 흘리는 얼굴, 그 숨결까지 바로 옆에서 느껴져 온다. 이것은 [사운드트랙]에는 있기 쉬우나, BGM앨범에는 찾기 힘든 것이다. 흔히 들을 수 있는 기악곡 표현의 한계 등을 이미 넘어서 있는 것이다. 연주진의 훌륭한 연주에도 혀를 내두를 뿐이다. 다들 최정상에서 활약하는 뮤지션들이 모여있지만 그 면면을 각각의 곡에 이렇게 배치하는 츠루의 편곡자로서의 재능에 먼저 경탄한다. 하나의 예를 들면(일례에 그치지 않으면 끝이 없기에) 트랙 6[Time blows, Wind passes]에서 몇 층으로도 포개어지는 플루트 류의 악기들. 아이리쉬 플루트에 클래식 플루트가 겹쳐져 만남과 헤어짐을 반복하고, 그곳에 마지막으로 선명히 틴휘슬이 나타난다(틴휘슬은 켈트 음악의 특징적인 악기이다. 이문화의 극단이라고도 말할 수 있는 인도를 무대로 한 음악에서 생생하게 틴휘슬이라는 악기를 활약하게 한다, 그 대담한 지휘가 훌륭하다)이 드라마적인 신선미는 츠루의 경계가 없는 감성이 만들어내는 유일무일한 예술의 모습이다. 그리고 당연하면서도 두드러지는 게 나타나는 것이 일본굴지의 바이올리니스트로써의 츠루 노리히로의 기량과 매력이다. 그의 바이올린은 설령 어느 것을 연주해도 그 음색을 한번 듣고 [츠루 군]이라고 바로 알 듯한 확실한 주장이 있다. 히스테릭해지기 쉬운 악기인 바이올린을 이렇게까지 느긋하고도 도도하게, 또 당당한 음으로들려줄 수 있는 바이올리니스트를 나는 달리 알지 못한다. 강함 안에 아름다움, 거기에 고독감이나 애수도 가득 담은 음색은 이쯤에서 한층 더 [사랑]의 인상을 더한다. 이러한 깊이를 가지고 이 사람은 세상에 발걸음을 내딛는 것이라고. 그런 예감에 가슴이 고동친다. 전 17곡을 침착하게 듣는 중에 인간으로써의 자신을 문득 자각했다. 그렇게 느낀 순간이 있었다. 이건 언제였었는지 맛본 감각이다라고 기억을 더듬으며, 그것은 자신이 철이 든 순간이었다는 것을 느꼈다.

[나는 여기에 있다] 살아있는 것을 처음 자각했다, 그 눈뜸의 시기. 그것을 불러내버리곤 만다, 음악이라는 게 이렇게까지 마음의 심층에 가라앉아 들어오는 것인가라는 생각이 들었다. 츠루 노리히로가 낳은 음악은 생명의 본질을 계속해서 이야기한다. 그곳에 있는 괴로움도 슬픔도 모두 내포하여 강하고도 곧게 미래를 향하고자 하는 힘. 츠루가 말하는 이야기의 그 이어짐을, 나는 청취자로써의 마음가짐을 가지면서 이 [빛처럼 파도처럼]을 몇번이고 몇번이고 반복해 듣게 되지 않을까. “음의 나그네” 츠루 노리히로의 여행이 여기서 다시 시작하는 것이다.
