차분하고 상냥한 코랄리 끌레망(Coralie Cl?ment)이 전하는
초봄의 데이트 BGM [Toystore]

앨범의 제목처럼 마치 장난감가게에 진열된 우클레레나 오르골, 그리고 멜로디언과 리듬박스 등을 이용해 만든 컬러풀한 감촉이 마치 대화하는 듯한 코랄리 끌레망의 상냥한 목소리와 어우러져 있다. 자칫 가벼워 보일수도 있는 이 \'토이팝\'을 능숙한 어프로치로 뽑아내면서 마법과 같은 소리들을 만들어낸다.

그녀의 외형적인 모습, 그리고 목소리도 확실히 유연해지고 어른스러워졌다. 부클릿의 마지막 페이지에는 앨범에 사용됐던 악기들을 아기자기하게 적어놨다. 관심있는 분들은 알아서 참고하면 될 것 같다. 뮤직비디오를 공들여 찍기로 유명한 미셸 공드리(Michel Gondry)가 비디오를 만들어 준 바 있는 프랑스 슈퍼스타 에띠엔 다호(Etienne Daho) 라던가 벤야민의 ex-아내인 키아라 마스트로야니(Chiara Mastroiani)가 참여했다.

서두르지 않는 상냥함을 가진 [L\'effet Jokari]를 시작으로 \'쎄라비\'를 앨범의 제목으로 차용하고 있는 청초한 우크레레와 긴장감 넘치는 베이스라인이 돋보이는 트랙 [C\'est La Vie]로 이어진다. [C\'est La Vie]는 뮤직비디오 역시 제작됐다. 블로그라던가 여러 포탈에서 이 비디오를 여러분들이 이미 봤을지도 모르겠다.

마치 니힐리스트가 작성한듯한 영어가사로 이루어진 [Share the Day]는 좀 의미심장하다. 벤야민과 이혼한 와이프가 같이 곡을 만들었는데 사랑과 인생에 대해 자조적이고 어떻게 보면 차갑기까지한 이런 가사를 함께 만들고 그걸 또 이혼한 남편의 동생이 부르고 있는 상황이 약간 아스트랄하다. 자신의 가정사를 이런 방식으로 밖으로 끄집어내는 문화는 좀 이해를 못하겠지만 그래도 가사만큼 담담한 곡은 약간의 슬픔을 머금고 있어 아름답다.

업템포 리듬을 바탕으로 화려한 멜로디카가 유려한 [Le Baiser Permanent]를 지나 에띠엔 다호와 함께한 [Je Ne Sens Plus Ton Amour]가 전개된다. 역시 약간은 아픈 사랑을 노래하고 있는데 애수를 머금은 피아노를 중심으로 흐르는 본 트랙은 고전적인 프랑스의 혼성 듀엣곡들을 그대로 답습하는 듯 보인다. 쓸쓸하지만 계속 곁에 두고 싶은 곡이다.

키아라 마스트로야니가 다시 참여하고 있는 [Sono Io]는 이탈리어로 이루어진 가사로 셰이커와 우크레레를 비롯해 주로 찰랑대는 악기들로 어레인지 되어있어 단촐한 매력을 준다. 중독성있는 후렴구절을 가진 [Houlala], 그리고 80년대 활동했던 프랑스의 아이돌 리오(Lio)의 곡을 커버한 [Reine Des Pommes]는 확실히 80년대 당시의 공기를 머금고 있다. 참고로 곡을 작곡했던 알랑 샴포(Alain Chamfort)는 신스팝 아티스트이며 자끄 듀발(Jacques Duvall)은 제인 버킨이라던가 에띠엔 다호의 곡들을 만들어준 유명 작곡가라고 한다.

레게의 리듬을 가져오면서 여유있게 흘러가는 [Paris Dix Heures Du Soir]는 개인적으로는 앨범에서 가장 좋아하는 멜로디를 담고 있다.

역시 멜로디카와 리듬파트에서 레게의 향취를 느끼게 만드는 [So Long Babylon]은 음악잡지 뮤직위크(Music Week)의 부록 컴필레이션 CD인 [French Talent \'09]에 수록되기도 했다. 셀쥬 갱스부르의 경우에도 유독 레게 작업물들이 있어왔는데 프랑스인들의 레게 사랑은 나름 각별한 듯 보인다. [Tu Seras A Moi]를 통해 차분하고 약간은 쓸쓸하게 앨범이 마무리된다.

Bitter:Sweet
일차적으로는 지나치게 달달하지 않아서 좋다. 순수함을 가진 투명한 목소리, 그리고 마치 듣는 이에게만 비밀을 털어놓는 것 같은 속삭이는 보이스는 듣는 이와 만든 이의 거리를 좁히는 역할을 한다. 빠른 말로 장난치는 부분들이 있는데, 개인적으로는 이런 식의 속삭이는 보컬을 크게 좋아하는 편이 아님에도 매력적인 구석을 감지할 수 있다.

확실히 정식으로 프렌치 팝의 계승자라 지목될 만한 부분을 본 앨범이 가지고 있다. 어느 유저는 바네사 빠라디(Vanessa Paradis) 이후 유일한 정통파 프렌치 보컬이 나왔다고 극찬했는데 프렌치 로리타 신성들이 등장하지 않고 있을 즈음 그녀가 나타나면서 많은 사람들을 기쁘게 만들었다. 캐치한 멜로디와 왠지모를 나른함이 당신의 게으른 습성을 다시금 끄집어낼 지도 모르겠다. 보통의 프렌치 팝들, 그리고 특히 이런 식의 로리타 보컬을 가진 앨범들은 풋풋한 봄에 주로 어울린다.

그녀의 겉 모습과 센스, 그리고 보이스는 이 방면 있어 완벽하다. 좀 구식의 묘사를 해보자면 파리의 카페에서 에스프레소를 좀 홀짝거려보다가 생 제르망 뒷 곡목을 탐험하던 도중, 세느 강변에 누워서 하늘을 볼 때의 기분을 맛볼 수도 있겠다. 사실 텔레비전이나 영화에서 카메라가 특정 도시의 풍경을 몽타주 할 때 그 그림과 감성을 최종적으로 완성시키는 것이 바로 음악이다. 그렇기 때문에 아주 가끔씩 음악은 정말 모든 것을 바꿔놓는 \'최면\'을 걸곤 한다. 마치 깨어나면 안타까운 행복한 꿈처럼.
