한국가톨릭작곡가협회 창립 10주년 기념음악회

“우리 시대의 큰 어른”으로 종교계를 초월하여 온 국민의 사랑과 존경을 받아 온 김수환 추기경께서 선종하신 지 어느 덧 십년의 시간이 흘렀다. 고인께서 우리에게 남겨주신 “고맙습니다. 서로 사랑하세요.”라는 말씀은 이미 일상 안에서 중요한 가르침이 되어 사회를 훈훈하게 만들어 주었으며, 우리 각자가 사랑의 정신에 대하여 다시 한 번 깊이 생각해 볼 수 있게 해 주는 계기가 되었다.

<김수환 스테파노 추기경 선종 10주년>을 위한 천주교 서울대교구 주최로 진행되는 여러 행사의 일환으로, 가톨릭대학교 김수환추기경연구소와 한국가톨릭작곡가협회는 고인의 넋을 기림과 동시에 살아계신 동안에 종교와 사회에 영향을 주었던 고인의 정신과 가르침을 되새겨 보고자 이 음악회를 기획하였다. 고인께서 주신 가르침의 핵심 역시 예수 그리스도의 가르침인 “사랑”이다. 고인의 여러 소중한 말씀 중의 하나인 “사랑이 머리에서 가슴으로 내려오는데 70년이 걸렸다.”란 말씀을 주제로 하여 열두 명의 작곡가들이 나눔, 평화, 생명, 사랑에 대한 이야기를 소리로 엮어간다.

2009년에 창립된 한국가톨릭작곡가협회(이하 한가작협)는 가톨릭작곡가들로만 구성된 단체로, 올해로 창립 10주년을 맞이하게 되었다. 이번 음악회를 위하여 한가작협의 작곡가들은 고인의 글이나 말씀을 인용, 발췌하여 직접 가사작업을 하고 그 가사에 곡을 붙였다. 제1부에서는 김수환 추기경을 추모하는 내용의 독창, 합창곡으로 구성하였고, 제2부에서는 고인의 삶을 음악이야기로 엮어간다. 추기경이 걸어가신 길 자체가 하느님의 섭리로부터 시작되었다는 서곡으로 출발하여 전반부는 사제로서의 부르심에 대한 응답, 사제서품 후 주교, 대주교, 추기경 서품까지의 행보를 음악으로 표현하고 후반부는 사회의 복음화, 민주화 운동과 평화, 생명, 나눔과 사랑 등 고인의 정신을 노래한다.

기존 서양음악 작곡가들의 작품이 아닌 한국의 가톨릭작곡가들이 고인의 정신을 기억하며 새롭게 작곡한 작품을 초연한다는 점에서 이 음악회는 특별하지 않을 수 없다.
