一. 시각의 차별화: 2세들의 이야기
왕이 되고자 하는 열망에 들뜬 수양대군이 대신(大臣) 김종서를 무참히 살해한 사건. 이른바 계유정난이다.
기왕의 사극에서도 심심찮게 다른 이 사건을 새로운 시각, 즉 <관련자들의 2세>라는 전혀 다른 각도에서 재해석 하고자 한다.
수양대군의 딸 <세령>, 김종서의 아들 <김승유>, 문종의 딸이자 단종의 누이 <경혜공주>, 신숙주의 아들 <신면>이 바로 그들이다.
‘금계필담’등의 야사는 수양의 딸과 김종서의 손자의 운명적 사랑을 전하고 있다.
충청북도 백악산에는 두 사람이 피해 살았다는 동굴이 전해지기도 한다.
이 드라마는 수양대군의 장녀와 김종서의 손자와의 사랑이라는 설정을 김종서의 막내아들과의 사랑으로 재설정하기로 한다.
결국 이 드라마는 원수가 되어버린 승유와 세령 간의 운명적인 로맨스 물이다.
여기에 승유를 사랑한 경혜공주와 세령을 사랑한 신면이 엇갈린 애정구도를 형성한다.
그들 네 명, 즉 <관련자 2세들>의 눈을 통해 계유정난 전후 역사적 사건들이 담고 있는 숨겨진 의미를 발견하고자 한다.
二. 소재의 차별화: 조선의 <공주>
조선시대 왕비와 궁녀를 다룬 사극은 많았지만 공주를 주인공으로 한 드라마는 드물었다.
이는 조선시대 공주들이 사회적, 정치적 활동이 제한되어 있었다는 것과 연관이 있다.
공주에 대한 기록도 많지 않을뿐더러 심지어 이름도 생몰년도 알 수 없는 공주(혹은 옹주)도 다수 존재한다.
이 드라마는 최초로 조선시대 가장 드라마틱한 삶을 살았던 두 공주의 삶을 추적한다.
아버지 수양대군으로 인해 종친에서 단박에 공주의 자리에 오른 <세령공주>와 숙부 수양대군으로 인해 공주의 자리에서 끌어내려진 단종의 누이 <경혜공주>가 바로 그들이다.
三. 사극의 차별화: 흥행코드로서의 역사
<공주의 남자>는 <복수와 사랑>이라는 대중적 흥행코드를 충실히 따라간다.
수양대군에게 일가족을 몰살당한 한 남자, 승유. 승유의 죽마고우면서도 수양대군과 손잡은 신면.

1. Order cancellation
