첫 만남에 자신의 불행의 역사를 고백하는 사람과 사랑에 빠질 수 있을까. 그렇다고 생각한다. 오히려 진짜 사랑은 그렇게 시작된다고 믿는다. 인류를 구원할 수도 없는 통기타 가수, 소년의 왕이라는 띠를 둘렀던 김승주는 이제 맨몸으로 기타 앞에 선다. 남의 옷처럼 어색하던 반짝이 옷을 벗고, 상처와 불행을 띤 맨얼굴로 서 있다.
그간 김승주의 이야기는 그가 즐겨보던 만화 속 이미지에서 움터 나온 허구와 진실 속에 뒤섞여 존재했다. 머릿속을 떠다니던 장면에 자신을 빗대어 생각해보다가 상상과 진짜가 결합해 터져 나온 이야기들. 그렇게 [소년만화上], [고시엔], [소년만화下]를 해를 넘겨 완성했다. 그리고 첫 정규 앨범 앞에서 김승주는 수많은 의미부여와 그럴싸한 주제 대신 자신의 정신과 육체 속에 흐르는 바이러스를 발견하는 일에 착수한다.
바이러스는 몸에 한 번 들어오면 어떻게든 지워지지 않는 흔적을 남긴다. 김승주에게 바이러스 같은 존재는 가족, 음악을 대하는 태도, 구닥다리 같은 고향이기도 하다. 한 사람이 나고 길러진 역사는 어떤 방법으로도 지워지지 않는다. 세련된 매무새로 감춰봐도 남의 옷을 입은 것처럼 어색하다. 감추고 싶은 이야기, 하지만 어쩌면 김승주를 가장 잘 설명할 수도 있는 이야기를 담은 바이러스 파트는 '미완성바이러스'로 시작해 '불행의역사'와 '음악실격' 그리고 '신시가지로'로 연결된다.
기타 이펙터 퍼즈(Fuzz)를 통과한 소리는 바이러스 파트의 핵심 사운드다. 전기가 연결되지 않은 통기타, 하프, 비올라 연주는 이펙터를 통과하지 않고서는 반대쪽 세계의 문턱을 넘을 수 없다. 어쿠스틱 악기는 김승주의 포크 세계를, 플러그에 꽂힌 악기는 일렉 기타를 든 김승주를 대변하는 듯하다. 밥 딜런은 처음 일렉 기타를 들고 무대에 섰을 때 거센 야유를 받았지만, 김승주는 기타를 앰프에 꽂기 시작하니 더 많은 사람이 자신의 이야기에 귀 기울여 주는 느낌을 받았다고 한다. 하지만 그의 포크 정신은 여전히 미완성바이러스를 타고 흐른다. '신시가지로'에서 김승주는 통기타를 연주하며 비틀스의 실험 정신을 이어간다. 물론, 퍼즈를 타고 흐르는 소리와 끊임없이 싸우면서 말이다.
바이러스 파트에 이어서 백신 파트로 흘러가는 앨범의 구성이 인상적이다. 백신의 목적은 능동면역을 얻는 것이다. 가장 단순한 방법은 그 병에 직접 걸렸다가 낫는 것이지만, 김승주는 강요받은 엉터리 처방을 거부하는 일부터 시작한다('오진'). 그리고 자기소개란에 차마 공개하지 못할 초라한 약점을 고백한다('일기장'). 이는 '주인공의 법칙(2023)'에서 주인공이라는 능동적이지 못한 이유로 죽지 않았던 화자가 자신이 미완성의 존재임을 인정하고 사랑하며 스스로를 살리는 길을 택한 것으로 해석되기도 한다.
미완성의 결핍을 인정하는 행위는 자기고백적인 가사에서뿐만 아니라 음악적인 시도로도 이어진다. '오진'에선 집착적으로 추구해온 드럼의 화려한 플레이를 과감히 내려놓기도 하고, '일기장'에선 절대 사용하지 않겠다던 코드 진행을 억지로 밀고 나가기도 한다. 그런데 삶이 재밌는 건 '절대'를 내려놓고, '절대 못할 것 같던 일'을 받아들이는 순간 가장 멋진 일이 벌어진다는 점이다. '일기장'에서 김승주는 그동안 멀리해 오던 코드 진행 위에서 그가 구사할 줄 아는 모든 것, 포크와 밴드 사운드를 멋지게 변주하고 지휘하며, 누군가의 일기장을 함께 따라 부르고 싶은 모두의 노래로 탄생시킨다.
미완성을 고백하고 인정하는 일은 창작 방식에도 적용된다. '임시동맹'으로 시작해 '난로'를 지나 '구시가지로'로 매듭을 맺는 소강 파트는 하루 만에 완성한 곡들로 채워져 있다. 순간 가장 하고 싶은 얘기를 뜨겁게 쓰고 뒤돌아보지 않기, 맞춤법 검사하지 않기. 이렇게 김승주는 자신만의 백신을 찾았다. 병균 같은 자신을 병균으로 인정하는 방법으로 말이다.
파스칼은 자신이 비참한 존재임을 알기 때문에 인간은 위대하다고 말했다. 자신의 결점을 꼼짝없이 드러내는 그 고백 이후에야 불행의 역사에 마침표가 찍히고, 끝 다음에 무언가 존재할 수 있다. 분명 끝 다음엔 시작이 있다. 잘려 나간 그루터기에서 푸른 새싹이 돋고, 그 뿌리에선 가지가 움터 나온다. 김승주는 자신이 병균임을, 미완성임을 인정하며 새롭게 출발한다. 누구도 대신해 줄 수 없는 자발적인 고백을 홀로 해낸다. 또한 작사, 작곡, 편곡을 스스로 책임진다. 아무것도 숨기지 않은 음악을 완성한 그는 이전과 같은 구닥다리 동네에 사는, 실패에 익숙한 사람과는 다른 존재가 된다. 그렇기에 나는 이 음악에서 그의 약점이 아닌 위대함을 느낄 수 있는 것이다.

1. Order cancellation
- Cancellation cannot be made after 12:00p.m. on the next day of the order date, though the shipment hasn’t begun.
- If the product hasn’t shipped yet, the cancellation can be made before 12:00p.m. on the next day of order date through email.
- When ordering through deposit, order cancellation before payment is done if payment isn’t made within 3 days.
- If cancellation is received/approved after shipping due to private reasons, then you must pay for round-trip delivery rate to your location.
2. Exchange/Refund
- Exchange/refund request can be registered through email within 7 days after delivery.
- The round-trip shipping rate is charged to the customer for exchange/refund due to customer’s private reasons.
- If refund is approved after request, then we will guide you in regard to the refund charge and round-trip delivery fees.
- If the product is different from our description/advertisement on the page, or you are eligible for exchange/refund due to product malfunction or wrong delivery, then the shipping rate for refund/exchange will be paid by our company.

1) Shipping Charge
- The international shipping price differs according to the weight and rate set by the shipping company (box weight included).2) Delivery Date
